Weight loss Atkins diet way involves eating a diet low in carbohydrates and high in proteins and fats. This is contrary to everything you’ve ever heard about dieting. Most physicians recommend a diet low in protein and higher in carbs. The Atkins diet begins with the Induction phase. During this stage of the diet you can eat meat, eggs, fish, butter, cream and cheese in quite liberal amounts and 3 cups of green leafy vegetables, and that’s about all. This phase of the Atkins diet, must be followed for a minimum of two weeks, but can last longer. You are limited to only 20 carbs a day, but average weight loss is 3-5 pounds a week.

The next phase of the Atkins weight loss diet is called O.W.L. or Ongoing Weight Loss. Now you are at the stage in your Atkins diet where you can add 10 carbs a week to the daily total. This pre-maintenance phase is where you really start to build the diet plan you will follow for the rest of your life. You stay in the pre-maintenance phase of your Atkins diet until your are a pound or two from goal. You are now ready to move into the final phase of the Atkins diet.
