Robert Atkins Diet – Simply But Powerful
A Dr. Robert Atkins diet is one which is high in fat and low in carbohydrates. This is totally contrary to what most physicians prescribe for their patients who need to lose weight. These doctors believe that the Atkins plan can lead to increased LDL, bad cholesterol and triglycerides which can lead to heart disease and stroke. However even those opposed to Atkins have to admit that Atkins dieters usually have an increase in HDL, good cholesterol, and a decrease in triglycerides, while HDL is usually stable but may increase by a point or two.
On the Atkins diet you are permitted plenty of fish, meat, cheese, butter,
eggs and cream. The Atkins low carb diet limits the intake of bread, starchy
vegetables, pasta and fruits. Milk, white flour, and white rice are
forbidden while on Atkins.
The second stage of the Atkins diet, Ongoing Weight Loss, or OWL, allows you
to add 5 carbs per week to your daily dietary intake. When you are only 3-5
pounds from goal you go into the pre-maintenance phase of the Atkins diet.
Now you may add 10 carb grams a week to the daily carb count. Finally you
are a pound or so from goal and in the Atkins diet lifetime maintenance
phase. At this point you are eating the way you will for the rest of your
life. For more information on related products and services, please choose from the following menu of items: About The Author: Martin Smith is a successful author and publisher of http://www.atkins-diet-plan-n-books.com. Information about the Atkins Diet plan and long term weight loss.
