Low Carb Flour

Low Carb Flour – Make tasty bread

You are on a low carb diet and that means no bread, cake or cookies, right? Wrong! You can enjoy these flour based foods by using low carb flour to make your own lower carbohydrate treats. There are several varieties of lower carb flours such as whole wheat, rye, oatmeal, white rice, and whey protein. You can find recipes that use these restricted carb flours in cookbooks, magazines and on web sites devoted to low carb cooking and dieting.

You can use lower carb flour to make just about anything you would make with white flour including muffins, bread, cakes, cookies, biscuits and rolls. Most of the recipes for low carb bread call for using a bread machine, however there are recipes for oven baked limited carb bread and some give directions for both methods. Home baked low carbohydrate breads have a carb count of 4 to 7 grams per slice, this depends on the type of low carbs flour you choose and the other ingredients you use.

These reduced carb flour are rather expensive. A 10oz bag of unbleached almond flour was on sale for $3.99. A can of Atkins bake mix(20oz) used for biscuits, waffles and pancakes was about $8.00 at a wholesale supplement web site. The only nearly normal price was for Arrowhead Mills where a 5 lb bag of whole grain pastry flour went for $4.40, not including shipping. You might fare better by checking local sources such as bakeries and supermarkets for restricted carbs breads, cookies and other baked goods.
