Low Carb Dieting
Low Carb Dieting – Easy To Do
Low carb dieting has been around for over 30 years, fading in and out
of popularity. Since the basic premise is high fats and low carbs, the plan
has its detractors. Many physicians see low carbs dieting as a direct route
to heart disease, stroke and even cancer. However there have been no long
term studies that prove or disprove their claims. There are several ongoing
studies of the long term effects of a lower carb diet, but the results won’t
be available for years.
What is known is that over the short term, at least, a lower carbohydrate
diet does seem to raise the HDL, good cholesterol. Also if you stick to the
reduced carb diet you will lose weight and if you follow the plan through
the maintenance phase you will likely keep it off as long as you don’t
cheat. You can find articles about limited carbohydrate dieting on the web
or in books and magazines. “Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution” does a good job
of explaining the theories supporting his low carb, high fat diet plan. The
book also has a carbs counter at the end which will be extremely helpful as
you progress to the lifetime maintenance level of your lower carbs diet
plan.
Dieting the low carb way appears to be effective and there is as yet no
medical information that can confirm its safety or lack thereof. Try it
under the supervision of your doctor. Enjoy the steak, omelets and burgers
of a low carb diet, but make sure you use your allowable carbs for healthy
vegetables.
