Diet Plan Atkins - Low Carb Help

A diet plan Atkins style is built on the principle that, contrary to what we have been taught, a high fat low carb diet is healthier then the traditional low fat high carb diet plan. The Atkins diet is one of the most popular diet plans of all time. The diet has four phases: Induction, Ongoing Weight Loss, Pre-maintenance, and finally Maintenance. you stay at this phase of the diet, for the rest of your life. Dr. Atkins in his book, “Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution” gives a thorough explanation of all of the phases.

The induction phase of the Atkins diet plan is very strict, limiting carb intake to just 20 carb grams a day for a minimum of 2 weeks. Dr. Atkins reports on one woman who stayed on the induction plan for 2 years. The O.W.L. or Ongoing Weight Loss phase of the Atkins diet lets you add 5 grams of carbs a week to your daily total until you are 5 to 10 pounds from goal. Now you are in the Pre-maintenance phase of the Atkins plan You are adding 10 carbs a week to your daily carb total. This phase of the plan slows down your weight loss, but this is where you learn to eat the Atkins way.

Finally you enter the Lifetime Maintenance Phase of the Atkins Diet. This is the way you will eat for the rest of your life. If you see you are gaining a few pounds, drop your daily carbohydrate count for a few days, and if all else fails go back to the Induction diet for 3 days or so. Then go back to the Maintenance phase of the Atkins diet.
