Atkins Diet Statistics

Atkins Diet Statistics – Questions Asked

Atkins diet statistics are not easy to come by but with a little digging you can find some interesting information about Atkins dieters and diets. Much of the statistical information about Atkins is anecdotal rather than scientific. For instance in a British poll it was revealed than 7% of men and 10% of women in the U.K. have tried the Atkins diet. Another poll from the U.K. reports that only one in a hundred Atkins dieters believe the health risk warnings about the diet and half think more research into the long term effects of the Atkins plan is called for.

One Atkins diet statistic is amazing. Weight loss by one person in a study of over six hundred Atkins dieters lost 248 lbs in just 48 weeks! Some less dramatic weight loss over the same period occurred. People lost between 25 and 100 lbs. During the first 10 weeks on Atkins dieters lost up to 60 lbs. Average weight loss on Atkins during the study was 50 lbs. One person lost nothing over a 20 week period on the Atkins diet. Why the difference in weight loss? It can be explained by differences in exercise and cheating on the diet.

Other statistics on the Atkins diet are based on the sale of he book “Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution”. The 1992 edition spent more than 3 years on the N.Y. Times bestseller list and sold over 10 million copies. It was also the best selling diet and health book in the U.S. for almost 5 years. Dr. Atkins completely revised the book in 2002 adding more information on “doing Atkins” and many new recipes.
