Atkins Diet Review

Atkins Diet Review – No Nonsense Advice

The Atkins diet is not very popular with most of the mainstream medical community. So it is not surprising that any Atkins diet review is unfavorable. Most of the favorable reviews come from people who have actually used or are still using the Atkins diet. A common theme among these dieters is that Atkins is the first diet where they’ve been able to keep the weight off, some for as long a 20 plus years.

The Atkins foes, in their Atkins diet reviews point out that as of yet no long term scientific studies have been released that back up Atkins claim that this diet will lower triglyceride levels. At the same time there has not been a long term study that proves the Atkins diet doesn’t work.

The American Heart Association cites a 12 year Harvard study of 74,000 women which showed that those who ate more fruits and vegetables were 26% less likely to be obese than those who ate fewer veggies. Keep in mind that this study was not done exclusively on Atkins dieters, if there were any. There are at least 5 long term studies of Atkins and other low carb diets in progress.

The debate over Atkins type low carb diets and higher carb low fat diets has been raging for more than 30 years and it doesn’t seem to have an end in sight. People on the Atkins diet do lose weight fairly rapidly. One of Atkins chief opponents, The American Heart Association, does say that morbidly obese patients may benefit from an Atkins diet.
