Atkins Diet Menu - What’s On?

The Atkins diet is all the rage nowadays, but what many people might not know is that the Atkins diet has been around for about thirty years. Dr. Atkins was one of the first to speak up about how low carb intake could lead to weight loss. Though the Atkins diet menu may be the most restrictive of the low carb diets, it can also lead to the greatest weight loss. Losing 3-5 pounds during the first two weeks is not uncommon.

There are resources available if you are looking for sample Atkins diet menus. These include the book Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution and the internet. Other low carb diet menus found in magazines, cookbooks, etc. should also fit the rules of the Atkins diet. Atkins Nutritionals is a line of pre-packaged foods appropriate for a low carb menu plan. Here is an example of a daily menu that will keep within the 20 carb grams allowed during the first two weeks, or induction phase of the Atkins diet:

Breakfast – Belgian Waffles, 2 carb grams
Snack – Coconut Thumbprint Cookies, 1 carb gram
Lunch – Open-faced Cheese Sandwich with Balsamic Red Onions – 5 carb grams
Snack – Atkins Chocolate Slushie, 2 carb grams
Dinner - Crustless Quiche, 7 carb grams
Dessert – Chocolate Cake, 2 carb grams

Recipes for all of the above, as well as hundreds of other low carb recipes and menu ideas can be found on the internet. If you are interested in The Atkins diet and don’t have a home computer, most public libraries have computers with internet access that you can use for free to look up information on the Atkins diet. Your physician may be another source of information on low carb diets.
