Atkins Diet - Discover The Magic

Rumors abound regarding the Atkins Diet. We have all heard the rumors and we have believed them, not believed them or ignored them. If you were a proponent of Atkins Diets, you touted them to anyone who would listen. If you were a traditional dieting person you fully believed all the rumors. The rumors were that the diet would permanently damage the liver and kidneys, the high fat content of the diet could cause hardening of the arteries or heart disease.

The Atkins Center’s response has always been in defense of the dietary principles of the plan. No studies have shown that the Atkins plan is harmful to the liver or kidneys of healthy people. Other studies of ketogenic diets similar to Atkins show no negative effects. The Atkins Center did their own study and followed patients for over a year. They tested the livers and kidneys of these patients and no ill effects were noted.

The studies notwithstanding, certain recommendations have been made cautioning those with special health concerns to either refrain from using all or parts of the Atkins food plan. Those who have gallstones will have trouble with high-fat diet plans and should not use the Atkins food plan. People in kidney failure are severely restricted in what they can have including water. They should not use the Atkins plan if they have a creative level of 2.4 or higher.

Further recommendations as to who can safely use the diet include pregnant women who should not do the weight loss phases but may do the lifetime maintenance portion of the diet plan. Perhaps the most important recommendation to be is to have a complete physical including blood work prior to starting The diet.
