Low Carb Diets - That Suit You

Low carb diets, which is best for you? There are several diets that utilize low carbohydrate foods as the base of their plan. Understanding low carb diet plans and their various approaches will help you choose the diet that best fits your tastes and meal schedule. All the popular lower carbohydrate diets are similar but have subtle differences.

For instance both the Atkins and South Beach diets have two week induction periods that severely limit carbohydrate consumption. If you don’t think you can manage this, then look at some other low carbohydrate diet.

Atkins, the first 2 weeks restricts meals to eggs, cheese, meats and green leafy vegetables. During this phase you’re limited to 20 carbohydrate grams daily. After the 2 week induction phase comes ongoing weight loss. You add fiber rich carbohydrates, going to 30 carbs a week, then 35 and so on until weight loss stops.

Then drop 5 carbs a week to maintain weight loss. Phase 3, pre-maintenance, increase the carbohydrate level by 10 grams a week as long as gradual weight loss occurs. Lifetime maintenance, eat a wide variety of food while watching carb intake.

If you can live without meat, but have to have the fruits and veggies, The South Beach diet might be for you. After the induction period this plan is more lenient about introducing fruit. The Carbohydrate Addicts Plan may be right for you if you like one large meal a day and love your dessert. It allows you a “reward” every day if it has equal amounts of low glycemic carb protein and glycemic carbs.

The Zone diet works by balancing protein, carb, and fat in every meal and snack. So if you prefer several small meals throughout the day, this may be the low carb diet for you.
